The organization kid is an article written by David brooks that is explaining how elite college student’s lives are so jammed pack and organized and that they seem to like it that way. All these articles that we have read so far all have a thing in common. There are comparing our generation to the 60s and 70s era that is a pretty big difference in years.
David brooks chooses Princeton, one of the most prestigious Ivy League schools in America, to convey a study on the students and how their everyday routine came out to be. One student told brooks he had to schedule times to meet with his friends. That’s really sad when your life is so packed that you have to make meetings just to keep up with your friends. I don’t agree about what brooks said about the student’s happiness. He said “nowhere did I find any real unhappiness with this state of affairs; nowhere did I find anybody who seriously considered living any other way”. He most have been interviewing the best of the best because I know if I cluttered my life I would be stressed out to the max, I wouldn’t know what to do with myself.
If brooks wanted to get an accurate study he should’ve interviewed other colleges to get a better understanding of how our lives go. He should’ve done a study on high school kids getting ready to go to college. I have always made an effort to keep up with my school work and stay organized to help me get through high school. This year I am balancing two jobs, school, and applying for college. Senior year is jammed pack with things you have to get done and things you have to do in order to graduate. I don’t think it’s going to be so jammed pack that I have make appointments to see friends or other things but it will be pretty busy.
I found it weird that in this article they mention things that parents could do to stimulate their Childs brain before they are even born. It’s a pretty cool thing but I don’t think listening to Mozart really does anything to the Childs brain. I understand like when your child is 2 or 3 to start teaching colors and letters and actually things they will need for school. I don’t agree that you can make your kid intelligent from a young age. I think the child chooses its own path to follow and sticks with it along with their parent’s guidance
So I really didn’t like this article for many reasons. I am tired of being compared to the older generations and making it seem like we are dumb. Our generation is different and maybe it can seem better in a lot of ways. I believe we have potential to do great things and we can show everybody who has doubts about us that we are learning and better. With the help and support from our parents we can achieve in life and move on.
