As I was reading David Brooks article "The Organization Kid", I was so shocked. I mean I always knew that there had to be time to study and focus on my education, it's a want and need. I do want to do my best and I do need to do my best, not to be on top but to know that I've accomplished something that will help in the long run. David Brook says,"One young man told me that he had to schedule appointment times for chatting with his friends. I mentioned this to other groups, and usually one or two people would volunteer that they did the same thing." After I finished reading the paragraph, I was speechless. You need people in your life, it's a must. Or else you'll go crazy. Brooks mentions that these future leaders don't have time for other life material- friendships, relationships, social gatherings, entertainment, etc. He says that many don't look into them until after college or even after their careers have gotten on track. Depending on what they are studying, some careers can take a long time to finally get on track. That is way too much time to shut out the things that bring happiness to a person, in my perspective. They make a person, they are growing essentials of life. I would never shut out the life material that makes me who I am and who I will be in the future. If I ever decide to spend every waking second on education, yes, I will succeed in graduating college, starting my career, but in the end what will I have? A job, income, but where is the happiness? Where are all my friends, my tv, my lover, my peanutbutter and jelly sandwich? They all left because I had to make an appointment just to see them.
Danville High School is a small school, in a small town. Princeton is not a small school in a small town. These future leaders were raised to be who they are being set out to be. Our generation is setting out to be the best, the best being what each person decides is the best. So what if we don't spend every waking second with our noses in books, our fingers glued onto the calcultor? Our class is still going to kickbutt, and it's true. I believe we are one of the brightest classes to graduate Danville High School.
Brook states,"Moms and dads who want the best and the most for their precious children know better. They know they must construct proper environments and experiences if they are going to get the most out of their child's genetic stock. The time for molding that little burbler is now. Accomplishment begins with the first breaths of life." The first part of this is true, I have no doubt that every parent out there wants the best for their children. Many families aren't fortunate enough to provide those environments and experiences. By getting good grades, passing AP classes, being an athelete, and getting scholorships. That's when the students are put to the test. A lot of students aren't going to want to have all that stress piled up on them, they will find a way to escape. Focus on your education, it is your future, but when it feels like it's too much, take a breather, eat a peanutbutter and jelly sandwich, jump rope, sing and dance, call a friend, enjoy life.
